Dear Parents, This month our theme is “Our World”. We will focus on how we can make our planet Earth a kinder and cleaner home. We will do this by learning how to recycle, reduce, reuse, and up-cycle. It will also be important to explore the concept of resource conservation: air, water, land, trees, and animals. We will discover various environments and eco-systems of the Earth, including the rain forest, Arizona’s National Forest, and the Earth’s various water systems....

Dear Parents, The theme this month is “Our Town”. We will learn about community helpers; health professionals, police, and fire fighters, mail carriers, librarians, and shop keepers. We will discuss the jobs our parents do and invite them in to share their special skills with us in Social Studies. We will also explore the various methods of transportation; land, water, and air. We will take a look at the history and technology of transportation. Safety will also be part of our unit...

Dear Parents, February is already here! Can you believe it? This month will be full of exciting projects and special activities everyone will LOVE!!!! Our theme for February is “Healthy Body, Dear Hearts.” We’ll be exploring all aspects of the human body: our organs and what they do for us, the skeleton and how it’s connected, muscles and exercise, and what makes a nutritious diet…

January 2024

Dear Parents, Welcome back to school! We hope you had a wonderful holiday! We would like to thank everyone for all the wonderful gifts given to the FLC staff! We greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness and kindness. Our theme for January is “Winter Wonderland”. We’ll study winter weather conditions, properties of snowflakes, experiment with ice and snow, and chart the weather daily.

December 2023

Dear Parents, December is already here and the excitement of the holiday season has begun! We are looking forward to the activities and events that make this time of the year so special. We will travel around the world and discover “Small World Celebrations”. This will include Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Las Posadas, and Christmas. We will explore the similarities and the differences of these cultural celebrations. This will give us an opportunity to appreciate the diversity of our world, its people, and the universal spirit of giving.

November 2023

Dear Parents, In November our theme is “Our American Heritage”. We will respectfully learn about the Indigenous cultures and tribes, focusing on Native tribes and cultures in Arizona. This will include the past and present; notable artists, education activists, languages, traditional foods, and change makers past and present. We will explore America’s “melting pot” and how we can respect differences, share common interests and appreciate all people in the world. We will also discover the value of old-world trades past and present and how they have influenced and helped build traditions. Thanksgiving will provide a wonderful opportunity to focus on “ALL” family traditions, special activities, and what it means to be grateful all year long.

October 2023

Dear Parents, We’re all looking forward to the pleasure of Fall: cool mountain air, yellow aspens, fresh apple cider, pumpkin pie, football, and Holiday celebrations! We are also anxious to begin our October thematic unit! This month we will focus on the Autumn Harvest. We will learn about harvesting and the growth cycle. We will study life on the farm. We will explore and identify parts of a tree, types of trees, and various types of leaves. We will also discover animals of the night.

Dear Parents, This month we will focus on the development of positive self concept. We will be learning about ourselves: feelings, emotions, families. We will also learn about friendship and making good choices. We will discover how we are alike and different and how each of us is very special! We will also be studying magnets, electricity, and simple tools. We will explore different sources of electricity. We will discover how simple tools work and how they help us in every day life.

August 2023

Dear Parents, This month we will be exploring the Animal Kingdom. Discovering animal characteristics, habitats, and much more! In addition to our theme activities, we will begin letter and sound lessons, numeral and number activities, geography skills, practical life skills, cooking, scientific exploration, music, and introductory Spanish. Special Events: Tuesday, August 1st: Welcome!! First day of fall semester!

Dear Parents, Well, it’s July, and monsoon rains cannot come soon enough!! We will continue the learning-fun this month by exploring our oceans and investigating all things dinosaur!!! ***Please see our posted brochure for details. Special Events: Independence Day: We will be closed July 4th & 5th, 2023 (Tuesday & Wednesday) in observation of the holiday. Have a safe and festive holiday break! See you on Wednesday! Don’t forget about the parade down town Monday, July 4th at 9:00 a.m. -it is such a great community event!

This month we will be discovering what we can do with S.T.E.A.M. and exploring nature and all of the peace it brings!
